Buckeye Justice Forum: Open Courts & Social Trust
Jun 20 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Join the Buckeye Justice Forum, a project of LEAD Ohio and the LEAD Ohio Foundation, for the next event in their Speaker Series: Open Courts & Social Trust – How Data Transparency Can Improve Ohio’s Justice System

The presentation will take place on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:10 PM. Registrants will receive a link for the presentation the week of the event. This is a virtual seminar that will be held over Zoom.

Hear from experts in the field with varying perspectives on how proper collection, coherent aggregation, and easy availability of reliable and comprehensive court data can serve as a critical tool for improving our courts and our criminal legal system.

This discussion will cover the role of data transparency in building trust between the public and the courts, the real and direct harms experienced by people navigating the criminal punishment system without adequate information, and how visibility into previously insular spaces can help communities in Ohio and beyond to identify and address bias and unfairness in our criminal legal system.

Join Ohio Supreme Court Justice Michael P. Donnelly, Professor Ayesha Bell Hardaway, and Professor Shin-Chun Steven Chien for a moderated discussion of current issues in court data management and accessibility, the status of the movement to bring transparency to our courts, and the challenges faced by advocates working to bring the realities of our legal system into the light.

One Person One Vote Community Meeting @ Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 392
Jun 29 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Issue 1 is undemocratic, unfair, unpopular, and unnecessary. If the corrupt Ohio Republicans manage to sneak it past the voters in their August special election for special interests, it be more difficult for We The People of Ohio to amend our own state constitution.

The Ohio Voter Rights Coalition is reaching out to assure that everyone knows about the One Person One Vote Community Meeting in Cincinnati.

Please bring a friend, family member, or neighbor to this free community meeting where we’ll talk about how Issue 1 takes power away from the people of Ohio and gives it to unaccountable, corrupt Columbus career politicians — and what we can do to protect the sacred American principle of majority rule.

Early Voting: August Special Election @ Warren County Board of Elections
Jul 11 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

There’s a lot at stake this August. The Ohio GOP, spurred on by out-of-state billionaires and special interests, have put a special election on the calendar on August 8 for only one issue: to give more power to corrupt Columbus politicians and the out-of-state special interests that are bankrolling their campaigns, and take it away from the people of Ohio.

Issue 1 would make it harder for the people of Ohio to get statewide initiatives on the ballot, by giving the people of one low-population county the power to block any statewide initiative, and make it harder to pass those initiatives by allowing a 40% minority of voters to block anything the majority wants.

Early voting is available for the August 2023 special election from July 11 – August 7. Lock in your vote early so you don’t have to worry about it later on. Any registered Warren County voter can vote early at the Board of Elections, regardless of your polling place on Election Day.
